Others arrive having already done the thinking — with a reference image in hand, a shape already decided, and a sense of exactly what the finished ring should feel like before the first conversation begins. This client was the latter. Before any design decisions were finalized, the client came into our store to see the center stone in person. We had the 2 carat emerald-shaped lab grown diamond ready — and seeing it face up in real light, its long step-cut facets reflecting in broad, clean planes, confirmed that the choice of shape was exactly right.
The emerald cut is one of the most architecturally considered shapes in the diamond vocabulary. With the design direction confirmed in store, our team built the ring as a precise three-dimensional digital model using computer-aided design software — translating the design conversation and the reference ring into a fully realized digital preview of the finished piece.
The CAD model captured every specification: the precise proportions of the emerald-shaped setting, the placement and size of the accent stones, the height of the setting above the band, the width and profile of the white gold shank, and the relationship between every element of the design. Renderings of the ring were produced from multiple angles, giving the client an accurate and detailed visualization of exactly how the finished ring would look before a single piece of metal was cast.
The ability to compare the CAD rendering directly against the reference ring was particularly valuable at this stage — allowing the client to see precisely where the design had evolved from the inspiration and confirm that every departure from the reference was deliberate and exactly right. The design was approved. Production began.
