Building something of your own takes years of work, sacrifice, and the kind of commitment that doesn't clock out at the end of the day. When this client came into AJ's Jewelry, what he wanted to wear wasn't a symbol someone else had designed or a piece someone else had defined — it was his own. The logo of his smoke shop, the mark that represents everything he has built, rendered in sterling silver and worn as a pendant. A piece of jewelry that is, in the most literal sense, entirely his.
The Logo as the Starting Point
The client arrived with an image of his store's logo — the same mark that appears on his signage, his branding, his business — and the request was direct: make this into a pendant. Not something inspired by the logo, not something adjacent to it, but the logo itself, faithfully reproduced in metal and finished to a standard worthy of being worn.
That kind of fidelity requires a specific process, and it begins long before the pendant takes any physical form.
From Logo to Vector: Preparing the Design
The first step was taking the client's logo image and converting it into a precise vector file. A logo image as it exists in standard digital formats — a JPEG, a PNG, a photograph — is made up of pixels, and pixels do not translate cleanly into the kind of machine-ready artwork our laser equipment requires. Vector art, by contrast, is built from mathematically defined lines, curves, and shapes that remain perfectly precise at any scale and can be followed by the laser with absolute accuracy.
Our team took the client's logo and rebuilt it as clean vector art — tracing every element of the design, preserving the specific letterforms, shapes, and graphic details that make the logo recognizable as his, and refining the file until it was production-ready in every respect. Where a logo designed for print or screen might carry elements that need to be adapted for reproduction in metal — fine lines adjusted for the cutting process, details simplified or clarified for three-dimensional expression in silver — those adjustments were made thoughtfully, always with the goal of keeping the finished pendant as faithful to the original mark as the material allows.
Laser Engraved and Laser Cut
With the vector file finalized, the design moved to our laser engraving and cutting machine — where the logo began its transformation from artwork into jewelry.
The laser first engraved the surface detail of the logo into the sterling silver sheet — the fine lines, graphic elements, and any interior detail work that gives the logo its character and makes it immediately identifiable. Laser engraving produces a precision and consistency of line that is difficult to match by hand, ensuring that the details of the logo read clearly and cleanly across the surface of the silver with the sharpness the design requires.
Once the engraving was complete, the laser then cut the pendant out of the silver sheet — following the outline of the vector file exactly and producing the silhouette of the logo with crisp, precise edges. The combination of engraved interior detail and laser-cut outline gives the finished pendant a definition and presence that makes it read immediately as a piece of considered craftsmanship rather than a mass-produced charm.
Finished by Hand
The laser provides the precision. The jeweler provides the finish. Once the engraved and cut pendant came off the machine, it went directly to our bench jeweler — where edges were refined, surfaces were polished, and the sterling silver was brought to the kind of finish that rewards close inspection.
Sterling silver, when properly finished, has a brightness and clarity that makes fine detail sing. The engraved elements of the logo deepen in contrast against the polished surface, the cut edges catch the light cleanly, and the overall piece achieves the level of finish that a piece meant to be worn and seen every day demands.
The jump ring was attached, the piece was inspected, and the client's logo — his mark, his business, his work — was ready to be worn around his neck.
